A New Vicar for Trinity!

On May 8th, during the Placement Services of Pastoral Candidates and Vicars at Concordia Lutheran Theological Seminary in St. Catharines, Ontario, Wei Ge (Wayne) Zhang was "placed" as a Vicar to our congregation for the 2010-2011 Seminary Year.

A Vicar is a "Pastor in Training", and the one-year vicarage is part of a four-year seminary program to train Pastors. Vicar Zhang will move to Richmond in August to begin his vicarage. After a successful vicarage, he will be ordained as a Pastor and will be eligible for a call.

Vicar Zhang and his wife, Anastasia, speak both Mandarin and English and will be a blessing to our congregation. In June, Pastor Harold and DPS Don Hindle, will get acquainted with Vicar Zhang during an Intercultural Mission and Ministry Conference in Winnipeg.

In the meantime, Vicar Zhang has sent a letter of introduction which is reprinted below.

Please pray for Vicar Zhang and his whole family and prepare to welcome them in August as they start their ministry at Trinity to serve our Lord.

Dear Brothers and Sisters
of Trinity Lutheran Church,

My family and I are very glad that I was placed as your vicar to serve the Lord and you as His people. I’m also very excited to have this opportunity to learn from my supervisor, Rev. Dr. Harold, and all of you about God’s love, His grace, and the Christian faith.

Allow me to briefly introduce myself and my family. I grew up in Beijing, China. I graduated from The Capital University of Economics and Business in 1989 with a major in Finance. Then I worked for a Chinese construction company for 16 years in Beijing, Yemen, Poland and Macau. In Macau, by God’s mercy, I became a Christian through Lutheran missionaries sent by LCMS and LCC. There I also met my wife, Anastasia. We moved to St. Catharines, Ontario in 2004 and I began to study at Concordia Lutheran Theological Seminary in 2005. We have been blessed with two sons, Nicholas (6) and Immanuel (5).

I’m sure it will be a wonderful experience for us at Trinity this coming year. Please keep us in your prayers as we prepare to move. We are looking forward to meeting all of you!

May God bless you with a wonderful summer!

Sincerely in Christ,

Wayne Zhang
